Tram des Balkans

the_title() 11/12/2012 - Artists

Tram des Balkans took to the rails in 2002. The band, just a foursome at the time, began exploring klezmer territory for a theatre piece, but then quickly strayed off into other traditions and compositions.

With a drummer joining their ranks in 2007, the group began their discographic adventure with a live album, «Shtirip’ Tour » recorded all over France. The Tram repertoire took in traditional themes, covers of contemporary music from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as original compositions with particular emphasis on the variety of languages they sang in (Czech, Rom, Hungarian, Hebrew, Russian…). Released in 2008, the album was accompanied by an exciting and highly popular tour (200 concerts, 5000 albums sold, 1stProfessional Prize at the ‘Nuits du Sub’ in Vence, 1 live DVD). Tram began to spread their now well-known Tush Tush Brassaïet in France and beyond (Czech Republic-2009; Germany-Austria-Hungary 2010, Canada 2011).

In 2011, the group composed their second album (RubberMan) and continued their journey through POP ‘n’ TRAD …

At the same time, TRAM des Balkans renewed their love of mixing genres and set up collaborative projects featuring dance and circus:
In 2009: ‘Shtirip’ Bal’ is a Choreographed Folk Dance, with the Pierre Deloche Company (Lyon). It offered a participating audience the chance to learn and create an original choreography with dancers and the TRAM musicians musicians and then dance them together.
From 2009-10 : ‘Daï Daï’, with Cirque dans les Etoiles, several performances featuring the TRAM musicians.
