A creative breath of fresh air from South East Europe is once again invading BOZAR. While our countries are looking more and more inwards, the festival remains an essential space for dialogue and new discoveries. In the company of the artists from the different cultural communities of the region you won’t fail to get caught up in a whirlwind of music, films, dance, activities and local gastronomy. This year the festival kicks off with the exceptional collaboration of Goran Bregović.’s Wedding and Funeral Orchestra and the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.
Balkan Trafik! collects the vast region of South East Europe under the banner of culture and reveals the beauty of the heritage of these communities by presenting an eclectic program. The visitor won’t fail to get caught up in a whirlwind of music – from traditional melodies to contemporary ethno jazz and rock –, not forgetting dance, films, workshops, flavours and aromas, all that in a unique setting. The fabulous musicians of the New York Gypsy All-Stars and the legendary Baba Zula from Turkey are amongst the 250 or so artists present this year.
Also on the programme, the exceptional collaboration of Goran Bregovic’s Wedding and Funeral Orchestra and the Brussels Philharmonic. Together they will perform the latest creation by the cult composer of the original soundtrack for Time of the Gypsies. More than a work, Three Letters from Sarajevo is an ode to the peaceful coexistence of cultures and religions.
The festival pays homage to Stéphane Karo, producer, talent scout and friend of the festival and therefore unites three bands on the stage of the Henri Le Boeuf Hall: Taraf de Haïdouks, Mahala Rai Banda and Koçani Orkestar.
Balkan Trafik! inserts a new generation of with a punk band from Istanbul with vocalist Gaye Su Akyol and the Moldovan band Zdob şi Zdub with an original mix of hip hop, hardcore punk and Roma music.
Over these three days, the cinema of the Balkans will also be celebrated during the Carte blanche of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
Another novelty this year is the first edition of Balkan Trafik! in Paris. From 1 to June 3 Le Palace presents a complementary multicultural chapter of the Brussels festival.
