Born on January 25, 1958 in the village of Dracove, Permet, Albania. Since he was a young man, Josif, worked in the agriculture and taught himself how to play the clarinet, which he often played in family celebrations, various feasts and cultural activities in the area.

He met with the master clarinetist Laver Bariu, also from Permet, and became his pupil.

In 1983 participated for the first time in the National Folk Festival in Gjirokaster, as the leading clarinetist, and continued to perform in different events held by the Culture House in his home town, and in other cities in Albania, as well as on the Albanian Radio Television.

In 1990, he joined the artistic cultural society “Elena Gjika” in Permet, where and under the direction of Dr. Vasil Tole, he improved and played with finesse the traditional polyphonic music.

Attended various National Folk Festivals in Berat 1995, Gjirokaster 1998, 2003, 2009, and regularly participated in the national meetings of folk music orchestras in Korce 1995-2007.

Participated in several International activities, festivals and concerts in Greece, Germany, Italy, Kosovo, and Macedonia. Currently he is one of Albania’s unique clarinetists, maintaining a centuries-old tradition of folk music.

Josif interprets with elegance and finesse numerous pieces from the greatest masters of folk music and dozens of polyphonic ones.
