the_title() 01/29/2012 - News

1001 valises went all the way to south Albania for a promotional photo shoot of the newly discovered groups for Balkan Trafik’s 6th edition.

On the program, a fabulous road trip through historical cities of Unesco’s patrimony such as Permet, Gjirokaster and Berat, guided by specialist Niko Mihali, the president of the Albanian section of CIOFF (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festival).

What followed from this magnificent journey was a rich encounter with Albanian culture and its minorities, added by the raki flavor of Albanian’s legendary hospitality! This resulted in a beautiful photo selection made by Balkan Trafik’s photographer, Milena Strange. Here a few pics…

1 – Young dancers from the Greek minority of Dropulli at the castle of Gjirokaster in Albania, incorporating the centuries old traditions of the isopolyphony.

2 – The polyphony of Dropulli guided by choreographer Anton Tunis will be accompanied especially for Balkan Trafik by master of clarinet of Permet Josif Shukallari ! 3 – The beautiful ancient town of Berat “with 1001 windows” hosts a large Roma minority of excellent musical renown. Balkan Trafik selected for you the best of the best. They call themselves Qyprillinjte e beratit or Koprulu of Berat, referring to the famous Albanian dynasty during the Ottoman empire. 4 – Enjoy… 5 – Next stop.. Balkan Trafik in Brussels !
